Energy Savings

WSA Systems Reduce Energy Consumption
Energy use has a dramatic impact on operating expenses and the environment. With energy costs and consumption at their highest levels, WSA’s systems continue to provide solutions that allow our customers to take an active approach toward improving equipment efficiency, saving energy  and achieving a better looking bottom line.

Return on Investment
In HVAC markets, special testing has been conducted on both centrifugal and absorption type chillers of varying capacities. Significant reduction in the fouling factor by use of a WSA system has consistently produced a reduction in energy consumption of 10 to 25%.  With WSA’s simple method of continuously cleaning condenser tubes, a major improvement in equipment operating efficiency is achieved.  As a result, increased system capacity and reduced energy consumption are experienced.

In power plants, one of the most frequently monitored parameters is surface condenser cleanliness.  This parameter can be directly related to condenser backpressure and net station heat rate. Condenser tube micro and macro fouling, as well as scaling, contribute up to 50% of the total condenser tube heat transfer resistance, resulting in reduction in power generation, increase in heat rate, increase in maintenance and increase in tube failure due to corrosion.   “Manual” cleaning is often used in an attempt to bring the condenser performance closer to design conditions.  This manual labor intensive maintenance procedure is costly, requires condenser shut down, and is only a temporary short term solution to tube fouling.  As a result of deregulation of utility companies, the efficiency and availability of each generating plant is a prime concern to the owners.  With WSA’s on-line Automatic Tube Cleaning Systems and Debris Filtration Systems, many plants have improved their power plant generation capacity.

The concept of achieving and maintaining full chiller/condenser capacity through reduction of the fouling factor means that once the initial investment is recovered, there will be a continuing return in the form of savings in energy.  As a result of these savings, the average WSA installation payback period is between 6 and 24 months, depending on the size of the system, the site application, costs of energy, etc.  As these costs increase, so does the value of the WSA system.
